How I Work: Blogging

It has been a few months since I switched over to this platform from blogger and switched domains. Not sure how I feel about the transition. I like managing things with Ghost and self hosting but I miss the set it and forget it aspect of blogger. I also miss scheduled posts and posting from email. I did find an app that lets me write posts so that helps.

In an effort to continue showing my work I figured I would share what tools I use.

Blogging Platform

I mentioned above that I have been using Ghost as my new platform. I was using it internally on my laptop for managing some code documentation I was doing. I enjoy the simplicity of it. I have used wordpress in both self-hosted and on wordpress.org and found it too heavy of a platform. Now I love the customization options available. We used it as our CMS for our church website and I have recommended it to clients. For me I just wanted someplace to drop my words and go.

Here is a screen shot of the interface:
Writing posts using markdown is simple once you get used to the syntax. There is a link to some of the markdown syntax in the interface if you click on a ? button in the editor.

The server is hosted through Amazon Web Services and the bitnami stack. Maybe that should be the other way around.

Mobile Blogging

I found this app while looking for solutions to post to ghost from my phone. For some reason my phone browsers would not handle the web interface properly. Ghostly is simple and gets me from idea to post quickly.

Here is a screenshot from the app:

Comments

I am using Disqus currently. I am not sure if I want to add facebook integration of if ghost supports it. My blogger friends either hate or love Disqus. So far I haven't had any issues. fingers crossed

Conclusion

So far I am pleased with the shift but I will need to do some more customization to the theme. I also have to get a consistent posting workflow down. My schedule hasn't developed a rhythym yet so I will have to see.

Keep working my friends.
