Building Your Inner Man

by Pastor Shawn Murphy

"For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith -- you being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God."

"What we do is not as important as who we are focused on in that action."

It is God that is working in us. He is interested in making us Holy.

"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work." - 2 Timothy 3:16-17

"Two natures beat within my breast The one is foul, the oneis blessed The one I love, the one I hate. The one I feed will dominate." - Anonymous

Romanos 7:18-20 RVR1

"Y yo se que en mi, esto es, en mi carne, no mora el bien; porque el querer el bien esta en mi, pero no el hacerlo. Porque no hago el bien que quiero, sino el mal que no quiero, eso hago. Y si hago lo que no quiero, ya no lo hago yo, sino el pecado que mora en mi."

Romans 7:18-20 ESV

"For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me."

See what God is doing in the midst of your situation. What is He doing? Set your eyes upon your God.

Four Main Things to Understand about David

Praise and Worship

Psalm 34:4-8 "I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant, This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!""

Psalm 42:1-5 "As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all the day long, 'Where is your God?' These things I remember, as I pour out my soul: how I would go with the throng and lead them in procession to the house of God with glad shouts and songs of praise, a multitude keeping festival.

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God."

God is strengthening you in your innermost being. His spirit is alive in you!

Renew Your Mind

Renewing of the mind is thinking new things which bring life to the body, spirit and soul.

Romans 5-8 MSG "Those who think they can do it on their own end up obsessed with measuring their own moral muscle but never get around to exercising it in real life.

Those who trust God’s action in them find that God’s Spirit is in them—living and breathing God! Obsession with self in these matters is a dead end; attention to God leads us out into the open, into a spacious, free life. Focusing on the self is the opposite of focusing on God.

Anyone completely absorbed in self ignores God, ends up thinking more about self than God. That person ignores who God is and what he is doing. And God isn’t pleased at being ignored."

Ephesians 25-28 MSG "Husbands, go all out in your love for your wives, exactly as Christ did for the church—a love marked by giving, not getting. Christ’s love makes the church whole. His words evoke her beauty.

Everything he does and says is designed to bring the best out of her, dressing her in dazzling white silk, radiant with holiness. And that is how husbands ought to love their wives. They’re really doing themselves a favor—since they’re already “one” in marriage."

You must discipline yourself to eat something with more substance

Study The Word

1 Peter 2:2 "Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation"

1 Cor 3:1-3 "But I, brothers, could not address you as spiritual people, but as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ. 2I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not ready for it. And even now you are not yet ready, 3for you are still of the flesh. For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way?"

Ephesians 5:25-26 "Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, "

2 Tim 3:15-17 "...and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."

Be Powerful in Prayer

Jude 1:20 "But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit,"

Romans 8:26-27 "Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God."

Embrace Fellowship

"When the enemy runs at you do not run away from the body of Christ. He is seeking whom he will devour."

1 Thess 5:11 "Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing."

1 Samuel 23:15-18 "David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life. David was in the wilderness of Ziph at Horesh. 16And Jonathan, Saul’s son, rose and went to David at Horesh, and strengthened his hand in God. 17And he said to him, “Do not fear, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you. You shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you. Saul my father also knows this.” 18And the two of them made a covenant before the Lord. David remained at Horesh, and Jonathan went home."

Ecc 4:9-10 "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. 10For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! "
